From a Distance
The artist and the studio
For months we have been observing how many artists work in studios where geographic and personal distance is commonplace. Most of us are currently living and working in a similar manner.
Our new Viewing Room will showcase artists who work from a distance.
Through a series of interviews and discussions, existing and newly-commissioned photography and film we shall introduce you, albeit briefly, to these artists’ different inspirations, influences and practices.
In this issue there are three articles:
Hitomi Hosono - Reflections on Isolation
London, UK
The video below was made by the British Museum and documents Hitomi Hosono’s working process. It marks the acquisition of the Large Feather Leaves Bowl, which can be found in the museum’s Japanese Galleries.
Tobias Møhl - Studio Visit
Ebeltoft, Denmark
“I let the glassblowing itself inspire me, I work a lot and try to keep my eyes open when I do so. I search for small details appearing in the process. I look for textile and optical qualities in the glass and try to cultivate them when I see it.”
The video above shows Tobias Møhl working in his studio
Jacqueline Ryan - In Conversation
Todi, Italy
“We look for quality and originality wherever the artist may be.”
Adrian Sassoon
